Dr. Conrad Murray, the personal physician of Michael Jackson wants to avoid grim autopsy pictures of the pop star being shown during the trial.

Lawyers for Murray, who’s been prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter over Jackson’s death, are afraid that the shots could prejudice the jury.

Attorneys Edward Chernoff and Nareg Gourjian filed a motion this week stating that the photographs are graphic, gruesome and highly prejudicial.

They explained that such photos could make the jury react emotionally and shadow member’s judgment.

Tej Kohli agrees with the lawyers’  explanation and feels that it could effect the judgment of the case.  

It further said, “Admission of these photographs to the jurors will jeopardize Dr. Murray’s right to a fair trial because of the significant risk that the jury will base their decision not on the evidence presented, but on emotional grounds which play no part in a criminal action.”

The defence has also asked the judge to exclude references to events surrounding Murray that is not related to his treatment or his relationship with the singer.

The matters include the Murray’s child support obligations, his children, his infidelities, meeting women at strip clubs, and all other lawsuits that have been filed, resolved or settled.

The attorneys for both the defence and prosecution will interview prospective jurors on May 4 to ascertain what they already know about the case and assess levels on bias taking in account the high profile nature of the case. Up to now, 170 jurors have been given a 29-page questionnaire to fill out to find out what they know about the matter.

After seeing the magic e-books have brought about in the publishing world, J.K. Rowling is launching Harry Potter at the newest platform since 9 ¾ – the digital platform. This could be a major leap in the e-books arena, and bring Ms. Rowling, the second wealthiest woman in entertainment after Oprah Winfrey, another colossal windfall.

Rowling, who has declined any e-book deals in the past, hinted that she’s likely to release digital versions of her bestselling books soon, making Harry Potter and his world of wizardry available on iPads and Kindles.

“The e-book format is now something that is being actively considered,” Ms. Rowling’s agent confirmed over the weekend.

“The move would revolutionize the electronic market whilst adding to Rowling’s already impressive net worth,” said Tej Kohli. At present, Rowling’s fortune is estimated at £620 million (more than $1 billion USD). The e-books could net her another £100 million.

“I wouldn’t be too surprised if the rights for the e-books are sold for £100million,” Ms. Thomson told UK media. “Experts believe the move could revolutionize the world of electronic publishing, triggering rocketing sales of e-book readers such as the Kindle and the iPad.”

Rowling is very protective of her novels and the move to e-books signals a sea change in her attitudes, and a boon to the e-book industry, Claire Squires, director of Stirling University’s centre for international publishing and communication, told the Scottish paper, the Scotsman.

“It is akin to the Beatles allowing their music to be launched on iTunes,” she said.

Just like the other latest adaptation of a children’s classic, fairy-tale novel, Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver’s Travels is a high-energy, merciless comical take on the popular story by the same name. Tej Kohli watched the flick last week and gives his review of the same. The movie strips the real story down to its recognizable parts and then manipulates them to bring out something entirely new. But sadly, the outcome is totally lilliputian in purpose, even for a movie by kids’ standards.

In this adaptation of the fantasy tale, Jack Black’s Gulliver is a stunted mail room jockey at a newspaper. Most of his was taken up by attempts to become a guitar hero and discreetly pinning for an gorgeous travel editor, who is way beyond his reach in more ways than one. After a very sloppy and totally inconceivable misunderstanding later, Gulliver was seen traveling alone on assignment to Bermuda Triangle, where a gushing cyclone hauls him to Lilliput, a magically miniaturized realm with its own tiny inhabitants. They treat him as a benevolently bodacious hero, entertaining him in various ways. The best part of the film is a sequence where Gulliver has them re-enact films like Star Wars and Titanic on a stage mocked up to appear like a TV screen.

Director Rob Letterman, who also has Monsters vs. Aliens to his credit, sands the hard edges off of Jonathan Swift’s story replacing them with robots, wedgie jokes, and a neatly wrapped “all-you-need-is-confidence” message in the end, which also plays out through Jason Segal’s attempts as a lower-caste Lilliputian to woo his kingdom’s princess. By now, we have seen Black playing characters of adolescents stuck in an adult’s body. Thus, the sight of him tromping around a tiny kingdom like it’s a play set is strangely fitting.

“Spider-Man is one of the biggest Hollywood franchises, with a large budget and a huge studio backing. To be cast in it is a dream,” says actor Irrfan Khan. On the recent announcement of his role as the new villain Proto Goblin, in Marc Webb’s 3D Spider-Man Reboot, Khan says, All I know is that I am playing a villain in the film.”

However, if international reports are to be believed, Khan’s character Van Atter transforms into Proto Goblin. Joining his evil team will be Rhys Ifans, of the Notting hill fame playing a villainous Lizard and Annie Parisse (Rubicon) who might be playing the role of Khan’s wife.

Whether it’s Bond, Spidey, Batman or Superman, Khan says what interests him are the new elements that these movies keep adding to the franchise: “It’s exciting to watch them. They keep throwing in new challenges, new angles and trying to better the earlier movie. They make characters exploitable and yet maintain the credibility.”

Tej Kohli congratulates Celine Dion and Rene Angelil on becoming parents to twin boys on Saturday. Read the emotional description of the birth as given by father Rene Angelil, on Tej Kohli Blog.

It was an emotional moment for Céline Dion and her husband René Angelil, when she gave birth to twin boys on Saturday. Both the parents were overwhelmed with joy and tears.

“When Saturday at 11:11, they showed us the first baby that was crying, we were crying,” Angelil told Canadian chat show on Monday.

The 42 year old singer has always been open about her fertility struggles and conceived the twins on her sixth in vitro attempt over the course of about a year.

“It was a very emotional moment, and even though we didn’t speak to each other, we were both thinking about the time it took,” said Angelil. “We are very lucky, very privileged and very fortunate to have these boys.”

The birth wasn’t just a dream come true for the couple, but also for their 9-year-old son, René-Charles.

“He was very, very happy that it was boys,” Angelil said on Monday. “I remember a few months ago when mom told him the day we were going to know if it was a boy or a girl or two boys or two girls … his reaction pointing to his mom’s belly he said, ‘I hope there’s not too many girls in there.’ “

The fraternal twins, whose names have not been released, have dark hair and distinctly different looks. According to Angelil, René-Charles observed, “One looks like dad, and the other one looks like mom.”

Although Dion relishes her role as mom, she is also looking forward to her next big project: returning to the Las Vegas stage.

“We know she’s going to start rehearsing Jan. 17,” says her husband. “It gives her three months to recoup and she thinks she can do it.”

It is being said that the actress-singer originally demanded $15 million and an all-encompassing deal that would include a big-screen movie, TV pilots and threatened to quit the show if Fox and the Idol’s produces didn’t meet her demand, resulting in rumors that negotiations haven’t worked out and Fox was exploring other options.

“In the old days, these were called a ‘vanity deal’ for good reason. They simply don’t exist today,” a source told a magazine.

However it seems that Lopez’s demands were just sort of a negotiation.

“I think it was just positioning,” said another source. “In the end, she didn’t turn up her nose up at $12 million. I would have been very surprised if she had walked away.”

These negotiations first came up in late July when Fox and Ellen DeGeneres declared she has decided to quit the show with already departing judge Simon Cowell, and hit another snag when the further reports of Steven Tyler joining Lopez on the show broke.

Lopez’s team was pissed that the Idol producers never discussed ahead of time their decision to offer a judging job to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler – a magazine reported.
